Irini΄s house is a Cretan traditional stone house, built back in the 19 century. The house is nestled in a quiet village hidden in the mountains, called Alones. The original character and the Cretan traditional architecture have been preserved and taken under serious consideration during renovation.
The village is a great base to explore a lot of outstanding places and beaches such as Plakias (25 minutes away by car), Damnoni, Moni Preveli, Rodakino, Frangokastello, Hora Sfakion and Rethimno.
If you want to immerse yourself in Cretan life in a peaceful location, the house is a perfect choice. It is ideal for those who want to relax from the city bustle and enjoy the nature. You have the chance to breathe mountain air (Krioneritis 1312m) compined with wonderful views over the area (very close to a magic forest).

The old and authentic stone house is located in the middle of the island(14 km from south coast and 21km from the north side by car).It's a great base to explore a lot of outstanding places and beaches

The surrounding area is popular for cycling (very close to a magic forest).Free bicycles are offered.
Climbing
Mount Kryoneritis (meaning Cold Water) rises in south Rethymno and is quite steep, reaching the highest peak at an altitude of 1310m. The rocky grounds are rough limestone and the few trees are mostly limited to maples and hollies.
The mountain is crossed by the European Hiking trail E4 that connects Rodakino with Alones. Another vertical trail also climbs to the peak, a few meters above the temple of the Holy Spirit (Agio Pnevma) with the water spring that gives the name Kryoneritis to the mountain. From the peak, one descend to the village Plakias.

Ancient Lappa(Argiroupolis)
Ancient Lappa was built near the current town of Argyroupolis, located 27km south of Rethymno. The area is now famous for its springs with waterfalls, its old mills and the lush green landscape that attracts thousands of visitors each year.(10km from Irini's house)
Kotsyfos gorge
The gorge of Kotsyfos starts at Kannevos village and ends at Plakias. The starting point is very narrow with a width of about 10m, which gradually increases and reaches 600m.(7 km from Irini's house)
Lake Kournas is actually the only large natural lake in Crete and is located in an enchanting landscape, surrounded by high mountains and olive groves. (20 km from Irini's house)
Rethymno is the most representative sample of a Cretan Renaissance city. The old town is one of the nicest attractions for visitors to Crete, who have the ability to roam in the past(30km from Irini's house)
Fragokastelo is one of the most famous beaches of Crete, famous for the local Venetian castle on the beautiful beach.Follow the road to Plakias and before Plakias continue east to Rodakino and then to Fragokastelo
Preveli beach is certainly the most famous beach in south Crete, accepting thousands of visitors every summer.(23 km from Irini's house)
Plakias is a popular tourist resort, located 14km south of Irini's house.The main beach starts near the town and extends to the east for 1.3km Along this beach there are several restaurants.
Rodakino(korakas beach) is located 22km southeast of Irini's house, on the exit of the steep canyon Rodakino that runs across the mountain Kryoneritis, a few kilometers west of Plakias resort and east of Fragokastelo
The Gorge of Kourtaliotis is one of the most spectacular natural attractions of Rethymnon.
It is a wonderful gorge worth visiting and trekking along its riverbed, while playing with water. It's located 14 km south of Irini's house
